Breath Prayers for labor
Using scripture in labor can be truly effective in bringing about feelings of strength and peace, and can remind you that you are in the care of a loving Heavenly Father during a time of vulnerability and challenge. One of my favorite ways for scripture to be used during labor is through breath prayers. This enables you to have relaxed, focused breathing while speaking affirming words of God's truth. Here are some of my favorite breath prayers taken directly from scripture. The instructions are simple: Close your eyes, relax your body starting with your facial muscles working all the way down to your feet. Take in a slow, steady breath and say the first part of the scripture. As you breathe out say the latter part of the scripture. You can say the scripture quietly and audibly, or you can say the scripture mentally as you focus on your breathing and on the words of the prayer.
Lord, have mercy. (Psalm 123:3)
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:2)
Show your power. (Psalm 68:28)
When I am afraid, I will trust you. (Psalm 56:3)
Come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20)
Peace, be still. (Mark 4:39)
Fear not, for I am with you. (Isaiah 41:10)
Be still and know I am God. (Psalm 46:10)
